WPAP PROJECT
The next task was to use the Illustrator skills in a project/technique of our choice, there were many projects to choose from, inlcuding an Obama "Hope" style poster, a Julian Opie style portrait, and also a Roy Lichenstein technique tutorial among others. I chose to do a WPAP project because I thought this technique would test my skills working with the pen tool and Adobe Illustrator as a whole, as I needed a bit more practice with the pen tool before I felt confident using it.
What is WPAP artwork?
WPAP Art is a style and technique that was created by Wedha Abdul Rashid. Rashid was inspired by the pop art movement to create his own Pop Art, in an attempt to make Indonesia more artistically inclined. WPAP art is created by taking a portrait or photograph, splitting it into geometric sections or pieces similar to the dimensions and/or shading within that image, to create a realistic effect that is split up into geometric 2-D shapes, usually using bright coloured paint, or if you are creating WPAP art digitally, bright colour fills. It is said that Rashid created this technique because of problems with his eyesight.
