Experimenting with Sketches digitally - Digital exploration and Development
Final Logo Design Early Stages and Prototype
Now, after the previous ideas didn't work and we felt that they weren't unique enough, we spent a while deciding upon a different design to use from my logo idea sketches. We decided upon the design that featured horns and a devils tail connected to a sphere to represent a plate with satanic themes to it.
After a lot of communication and discussion with my tutor, we decided that this idea would probably work better, as satanic symbols and themes are commonly associated with halloween, but are not necessarily obvious to everyone, meaning that it is definitely related to halloween, but not a common form of imagery used to advertise a halloween venue or event. Thus meaning that the logo design and corporate identity were more unique and would therefore be more interesting, and stand out in it's own right.
The original name for the restaurant was "The Laughing Pumpkin", however, since we were changing the theme to satan and basing the logos appearance on symbols associating with that theme, we decided to change the name to fit the logo design. However, I was very set on still using green and orange as the logos colours, as these colours, in combination, are obviously associated with halloween and pumpkins, which are the most common indicator of halloween themed things, and the season associated with it.
I felt that the colour scheme would work better than using red or black, as using those colours could lead the logo to look quite scary as opposed to family-friendly or even fun. Also, using a colour scheme associated with a different halloween icon/symbol would also enhance the uniqueness of the logo, by steering away from the obvious colour choice for something satanic, black and/or red. A couple of the names we came up with before settling on our final restaurant name choice "Devilish", were "Devil Dinners", "Devil Meals", "Devil Diner" and the very short title "Devi". We decided on "Devilish" again because of it's uniqueness, and also because instead of just desribing obviously what the restaurant was, it focused more on the theme and feeling of the restaurant. The word devilish also describes the restaurants theme, which we felt would intrigue passerbys to actually come into the restaurant to see what the restaurant offers because the name isn't too obvious.
Therefore forcing potential customers to at least come into the restaurant and be informed of the restaurants existence, in case they wish to visit in future, or to recommend to a friend, or simply so that they might be tempted to try the restaurant if in need of something to eat. By making the customer interested, it becomes more likely that the resaurant will be able to persuade the customer to eat there.
