Thumbnails and alternative logo designs
After I had spent quite a while doodling and looking at different ideas, I moved onto creating layout thumbnails, to help me grasp how my logo would work or fit into a layout, and whether or not my layout would be in shape of the logo, or simply feature the logo as a component of the layout (imagery etc). I enjoyed doing thumbnail sketches because it allowed me to explore different ideas creatively, most of the layouts I came up with independently, and consulted and communicated with my tutor on how many I should do, and whether or not I had done enough, I feel that I explored a satisfactory amount of ideas and that my ideas were unique and of a professional standard.
LAYOUT THUMBNAILS
This is where I began formulating basic thumbnails for my actual menu layout. I decided very early on that I wanted my layout design to be based around my logo and use elements and maybe even the colour scheme of my logo. I tried a few different designs and in the end I settled on the one that was shaped like one of my logo designs. My and my tutor discussed the ideas while I was drawing inspiration and looking at other menu designs on Google images, we thought the idea of a 3D pop-up menu could work really well and also be very innovative, however upon later discussion we decided that due to lack of time and experience creating 3D models that it would be very time consuming to do if we went down that route. We found that in the end a combination of elements from all different thumbnail designs would work well. Things like the devil tail seperators, the devil shaped menu design and the idea of a logo shaped wooden backboard were all used in the final outcome eventually. I feel that we took some of the best elements from my thumbnail sketches and incorporated them into my final outcome. The final outcome looks the most similar to the second sketch you see here. When it came to the placement of text, titles and the text layout, I decided to keep my layout as simple and minamalistic as possible, without too many things in need of organising. I feel that all of the designs I produced were interesting, relatively innovative and utilized correct conventions. I always enjoy creating thumbnails and sketches and then analysing which design would be the most suitable according to my deadlines and talents.
